Crochet & Weight Loss

Yet again, it's been forever and a day since I've posted. Too much to do, so little time. I definitely need more hands, or a Bernard's Watch. Or at the very least, someone to help me manage my time better. In my time away from blogging, and the blogging community, I've been busy. So, so busy. Along with holding down a job, and keeping house, I've been crocheting up a storm.
I made this adorable daisy blanket for a friend of mine, which was heavily inspired by Tillie Tulip's version. I was so pleased with how it turned out, and now I get to start on a full sized one for another friends wedding. It so daunting, but so, so exciting!

To go with all of the crochet that I've been doing, I set up a little Etsy shop. I felt a little silly setting it up, as I don't have a whole lot of orders, but I decided to bite the bullet and set one up regardless. If you'd like to check out Inked Hibiscus Designs on Etsy, you can do so here! It's a little bare while I make my next blanket, but once I have that done and dusted I'll be filling it with lots of lovely things.
In other news, I finally joined Slimming World. I'd been talking about it for an age, debating and procrastinating. In the end, I was so sick of my clothes not fitting me any more and said I'd give it a go. Six weeks in and almost a stone down, I can honestly say it's changed my life. Where before I would eat a full packet of biscuits, or reach for that last slice of pizza without blinking, now I'm making better, healthier choices.
I go to weekly classes, which I find really helps to keep me motivated. Of course, for my friends hen party and Mother's Day, I threw caution to the wind and went completely mad. But at the end of the day, I don't want to lose weight by following any diet, only to pile it back on when I start treating myself to the odd Chinese or bottle of wine. Everything in moderation, am I right?
I find that the more I crochet, the less I crave sweet things at the end of the day. Keeping my mind busy on counting stitches or choosing new patterns means there's no time for me to think about cake or other sweet treats.
I'm thinking of easing myself back into the blogging game by posting about my progress, with some of my favourite recipes thrown in for good measure. And, because I've typed it, it must happen.
Wish me luck?

Realistic Resolutions

Every year, I set myself some pretty unrealistic goals. From travelling the world, to changing my face, and everything in between. WHAT DO YOU MEAN I NEED MONEY FOR THESE THINGS?
This year, I decided to keep my budget, and real life responsibilities, in mind.
♥ Learn how to do makeup good. I've just about managed to figure out the mystery of how false eyelashes were applied, now I just need to learn everything else. I'm seeing a lot of YouTube tutorials in my future. If you know of any amazing makeup gurus I should check out, let me know!
♥Travel. Somewhat. As much as I'd love to see the world, my bank balance doesn't agree. I'm thinking some Irish staycations will fit the bill nicely this year. I mean, who needs sunny beaches when you can enjoy ice cream in the pouring rain? I'd also really like to make travel special for Caelen. I mean, what parent doesn't want to show their children the world?
♥Read. I used to read, all the time. Like, I used to bring a book everywhere I went. On holidays, half of the contents of my suitcase were paper based. Now, all I seem to read is tweets. My brother gave me two books for Christmas, so I'm hoping to get stuck into them sometime soon. I think I need to start using Goodreads again. That's still a thing, right?
♥ Craft. Lately, I seem to have spent all of my time covered in yarn, hook in hand. I've set up a Facebook page for my crochet endeavours, so this year I'd like to help my little crafty biz grow. I want to make some headway on my Never Ending Blanket project, and crochet some more home decor. I really am the crazy crochet lady!
♥ Blog more. This is more of a lifetime goal, than a resolution. As much as I love blogging, there's not enough time in the day. I mean, how do some people manage to hold down a full time job, a social life, and a blog? I'm going to have to learn to carve some time out just for blogging!
♥ Learn some photography skills. To tie in with blogging, and travel, I want to spend some time finally getting to grips with photography. I've downloaded some guides, and have a special notebook needing to be dusted off. Silly as it sounds, I'm the kind of person that needs to have things written down to learn how to do things.
♥ Spend quality time with loved ones. While money is forever tight, with weddings, hen nights, birthdays and various other occasions, I want to start putting money aside for family days out. Pet farms, swimming, trips to the beach. It doesn't matter, once I'm showing the people I care about a good time.
Are your resolutions more realistic, or are you reaching for the stars this year?

Reflections

2015, you were a weird one. It was one of the best, and worst, years of my life. Lots of laughter, and lots of tears, made for quite the memorable year. Because I'm trying to make this little space more of a positive on, and I don't want to dwell on the hard times of last year, I'm going to focus on the highlights.
As always, these photos aren't styled or fancy. I usually tend to just take quick snaps on my phone, especially in the later months when I grew out of love with blogging. It's one of my 2016 goals to work on my photography, so fingers crossed!
I experimented with hair colour. Sometimes to disastrous results. For a few hours, I was a Pink Lady. All over.

I did a lot of crafting. It's something I really enjoy, even though I realise I'll never be the best. I like to spread joy, and hot pink penises apparently.

We brought Caelen to petting farms, the zoo, and Tayto Park.

We celebrated birthdays. My nan's seventieth, Tommie's 30th, and Caelen had not one, but two parties for his third birthday.

I went to my oldest friend in all of the world's hen night. It felt good to get out of my comfort zone and spend a whole 24 hours with strangers. I don't think I had a funnier night all year!

We got fancied up for a couple of weddings throughout the year. This Lindy Bop dress was my absolute favourite!

I got a little carried away in October, attempting special FX makeup for work every day, that ended in dong my neighbours faces and going out for Halloween drinks, a whole week early.

And no less important, 2015 was the year I learned how to apply also lashes without gluing my eyelids together.

Since I'm on this positivity kick, I will say that 2015 was a pretty good one. It was the year that Caelen started creche and made lots of new friends, the year I set up a little crafty biz, and spent lots of time with loved ones.

How was your 2015?
